I called a buddy of mine, Matt Stansberry, you might remember him from one of my either video, Live Egde Walnut Bowl. He came over and needed to make a logo for the background of his Twitch live streaming videos. We spend the day and took our time just hanging out in the shop and came up with a cool light box that shows up in the dark. Well take a look and don’t forget to check out Matt’s Twitch and YouTube channel.
Started with Matt’s drawing of the Twitch logo. He transferred the pattern to a 1/4″ MDF. He got to play with the new scroll saw and cut this parts out. While I was working with the frame for the box.
Start the frame by first priming some scrap OSB, then ripped them down to 4.25″
The next thing was to make rabbits on each side of 4.25″ boards. I set the height of the blade to the thickness of the board going into the slot. I did this by set the board on the saw and raised the blade to the thickness. Then with the same board set against the fence moved the fence so the out side of the blade lined up with the board. Made two passes over the blade to create the rabbit one flat on its face and on against the fence. One rabbit holds the backer board. The other hold the glass. You can see here what we are going for. The brown piece is a scrap piece of paneling that going to be the backer. Here we are marking the last piece to be cut for the box.
Now the final shape of the logo is done, Some white paint and some final fitment on the box. The light was added to the backer board and tested.
Added the glass and the, what I call the eyeballs of the logo, used double sided tape the hold the right on the glass.
Here you go the final project. Had a great time working with Matt on this. An easy build but hanging out with other in the shop is much more enjoyable then just going out and doing something.
Thanks Matt for the help on this and good luck with your adventures on Twitch and YouTube. Now get some videos out!!!!
