Tire Demolisher

The Tire Domolisher

After working the Automotive field for over 20 years. I have never came across this situation before. Working in a Automotive repair facility, we install tires. The old tire get recycled. The recycle company comes once a week to pick up the old tires. We can’t store the old tire inside, it takes up to much room. So we have a fenced off area in the back of the shop to store those old tires. In the neighborhood that we are located in,  a group of guys come by a steals those tires. My company says we are responsible for those tires if they get install on someones car. Not sure why, but Okay. So we have started cutting the sidewalls of the old tires so they can’t be installed anymore. Now the company says we can’t use box knifes anymore we have to use “safety Knife”. Let me tell you those “safety knifes” SUCK. So I need a way to destroy a tire and do it safely. Here’s what I came up with.

Super simple project. I cut off an old broke screwdriver and used that for the shaft. Found a log, used that for the handle. Mounted the log between centers on the lathe and shaped the handle. I made it kind of big and left a hilt at the bottom. Then I drilled a hole that matches the screwdriver shaft and epoxy the shaft into the handle. Next I sharpen the shaft to a point. EASY, EASY.
