Veneer Backgammon Board

Veneer Backgammon Board Part 1

i HAVE to begin by telling you I have been wanting to make a backgammon board for a very long time. So this project already has a bit of SENTIMENTAL value to me. I don’t know why this project has stuck out to me. I think it has to do with the simple, complex nature of the pattern. To look at the board pattern at first glance it looks easy. When you really start to break it down and think about it, how cut it how assembly it. It’s not as easy as you might think. lets take a closer look at the board.

Mini Shop Updates

Mini Shop Updates

I have to give credit where its due. Paul Akers founder of Fastcap has this great speaking event in Boston. He posted this video on YouTube a few weeks ago. He talks  about Lean Manufacturing. In the simplest terms, its a process of making things faster and easier.  He really motivates you to think differently about the way you work. The best part is, it dosen’t take much and its makes you think about the little things that can you save time. This was the motivation of these updates and many more to come. Inlay Glue Tray

Inlay Glue Tray

I know everyone has had this happen. you are working on a project and need to glue something up. You apply the glue and spread it with a glue brush. then you set the glue brush on the work surface getting glue all over the surface. Well I have came up with a way to prevent that. Using a simple silicone sponge tray. I inlay the tray in the surface of my assembly table flush. Its ALWAYS out of the way and right wear I need it. I can also use it for a pop holder.

10 gift ideas

10 Gift Ideas

Every year about this time, you know “gift giving season” I personally find it harder and harder to find that one gift for that someone that has everything they really want. Over the the years I found that, even though they have everything they want, they don’t have everything they need.  Whether or not it’s Woodworking  or some other hobbyist you can always find something that they need. Take a close look at the hobbies and activities that person is involved with and find that one supply that they always use, always need or always has wanted.  For the Woodworking crew I have put together 10 items that every woodworker should have or would like to have.

Sine Wave Box

Sine Wave Box

If you have a new idea or just want to test out something build a box.  I came up with this design for a sine wave pattern. The challenge was to create the sine wave cut with out a CNC machine. Box building is perfect for new ideas and your “I never done this before” test. Material for a box build is minimal and not that expensive.  Plus you get a great looking box, if things work to your favor.  Continue reading “Sine Wave Box”

Retractable Green Screen

Retractable Green Screen

I have had a green screen for a few years now. I never use it, because of light issues and didn’t have any where to hang it. I have fixed both those problems. The first was the lighting. I have added three 4′ lights to the shop that greatly improves the over all brightness. To fix the hanging of the green screen I have came up with a way the make it retract up to the ceiling. The screen is 5′ X 10′ and I get plenty of coverage.  lets take a look at the design for the retractable Green Screen. Any and all links for materials will be below.  Continue reading “Retractable Green Screen”
